Charlotte, NC – Hit-and-Run Dump Truck Accident on I-85

Charlotte, NC (December 9, 2020) – A serious hit-and-run accident involving a dump truck took place on a major highway in Charlotte around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, December 9.

According to Highway Patrol officials, the accident occurred in the southbound lanes of I-85 around the area of the Brookshire Freeway. A Rowan County detention center employee had recently got off work and was on her way home in a Toyota Corolla when she was sideswiped by a dump truck that did not stop at the scene.

When the woman pulled off the roadway to call for help, her vehicle was rear-ended by a pickup truck that was going around 70 mph.

The woman was seriously injured as a result of the crash and was hospitalized. Her current condition is not yet known.

Police are still searching for the dump truck driver, who initially stopped at the scene for 30 seconds but then drove off. The driver could be facing charges.

No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
