Charlotte, NC – One Killed in Fatal DWI Accident on E WT Harris Blvd

Charlotte, NC (February 4, 2021) – Around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, February 4, one person was killed in a fatal accident in Charlotte.

According to the Charlotte Department of Transportation, the accident happened on East WT Harris Boulevard around the area of Grier Road. When police arrived at the scene, they found a Maserati and a Scion with extensive damages at the scene.

Police confirmed that the driver of the Maserati was traveling at high speeds when the driver lost control, swerving across the median and into the other lane of traffic. The vehicle struck the Scion head-on. The accident was so forceful that both vehicles were forced off the side of the road.

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene of the accident. The driver of the Scion, identified as Estuardo Menchu Cocinero, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Maserati was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police have since identified the driver of the Maserati as Kevin Samkia, who has since been charged with DWI, felony death by motor vehicle, and reckless driving.

The investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
