Wilkesboro, NC – Clyde Cox Killed in Fatal Collision on NC-268

Wilkesboro, NC (January 14, 2021) – Around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, January 14, a fatal collision occurred near an intersection in Wilkesboro.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident happened on NC-268 near the area of Whites Creek Road. At the time, a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east when the driver tried to pass a school bus in a no-passing zone. The Silverado struck a Mercury Grand Marquis head-on.

The driver of the Chevrolet was injured and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Mercury, identified as an 84-year-old named Clyde Cox, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. A passenger in the Mercury was also taken to the hospital with injuries.

As a result of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for approximately two hours.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
