Matthews, NC (May 4, 2021) – Around 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning, May 4, a multi-vehicle collision with injuries occurred in Matthews.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened on I-485 around the area of East John Street. Multiple vehicles were traveling in the area when they became involved in a chain-reaction collision for reasons that are not yet known.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were present at the scene. At least five victims were injured, one of which sustained life-threatening injuries. The patients were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The roadway was blocked in the area until approximately 9:10 a.m.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
