Newton, NC – Troy Faust Killed in Fatal Motorcycle Crash on NC-16

Newton, NC (February 25, 2021) – At 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday evening, February 25, a fatal motorcycle accident took place at an intersection in Newton.

Catawba County officials responded to the scene of the accident, which took place on NC-16 around the area of Mount Olive Church Road. Highway Troopers said that Troy Faust was riding his motorcycle in the area when the driver of a Ford pickup truck made a left turn at the intersection.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene of the crash. Faust was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 65-year-old Timothy Roberts, did not stop at the scene. He was found miles away from the accident and charged with driving while impaired, felony hit-and-run, and more.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for a period of time.

No further details have been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
