Swannanoa, NC – School Bus Accident Injures Several on I-40

Swannanoa, NC (April 27, 2021) – At 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 26, a school bus accident with injuries occurred on a highway in Swannanoa.

According to officials, the school bus with the Buncombe County Schools crashed in the eastbound lanes of I-40 around the area of Porters Cove Road. It is not yet known what caused the driver to lose control and drive off the side of the road but the bus had extensive damages.

Paramedics and responders with the Asheville Fire Department responded to the scene to help those in need. Approximately 15 middle school students were on the bus and had minor injuries. The bus driver had minor injuries and was hospitalized as well.

Due to the severity of the accident, eastbound lanes of traffic were blocked for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
